I truly believe that there has never been a better time to be a part of Armthorpe Academy and I am excited and privileged to become the Principal. All our members of staff are dedicated, innovative, caring and enthusiastic and this results in students who are increasingly independent, ambitious and successful. We set the highest standards and have a “whatever it takes” culture amongst staff and students. In a time of diminishing academy budgets we have maintained high levels of pastoral and support staff to ensure that every student’s needs are met. As a result our students tell us that they are safe and happy.
Our curriculum has been developed to ensure that our students make excellent progress, whatever their starting point, and leave us as well-adjusted lifelong learners. As a whole the curriculum is built around our principles of ambition, pride, respect and responsibility and is designed to promote British values, tolerance and mutual respect. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive academy.
However, life at Armthorpe is not just about academic learning. As part of Consilium Academy Trust we are determined to surround students with “all things noble”. To this end we are determined to provide our students with a rich variety of opportunities. Each enrichment opportunity enables students to develop transferable life and employability skills such as leadership, independence, team work, resilience and creativity. The range of activities available have recently included various clubs, sports, drama, music and trips, home and abroad, such as university visits, skiing in Europe, a cultural trip to Iceland and a Science visit to NASA. On every occasion our students have been excellent ambassadors for Armthorpe Academy.
The academy is at a very exciting stage of its development as plans are now in place to demolish and replace two of the teaching blocks: the work is expected to start in spring 2018. This will finally give the young people of Armthorpe the chance to experience a 21st century education in 21st century surroundings with state of the art science laboratories and sporting facilities fit to prepare future champions!
In short, Armthorpe Academy is a very special place where high expectations underpin our core values. We provide high quality teaching for our students and we expect the highest standards of behaviour and attendance in return. Our ambition is to be outstanding in everything that we do and to ensure that every student is prepared to access the next stage of their education. If you would like to find out more or visit our academy please contact me so that we can arrange a convenient time.
